Ausschreibung

1843 wagte der Autor und Illustrator J.J. Grandville einen satirischen Blick auf seine Zeitgenoss*innen und deren Begierde, Waren zu konsumieren, die vermeintlich die Versprechen gesellschaftlicher, kultureller und technischer Utopien einlösten. „Un autre monde“ ist uns als faszinierende politische Farce einer schönen neuen Welt überliefert.

Wir möchten Student*innen der Angewandten einladen, „Eine andere Welt“ mit künstlerischen Mitteln in bildlicher und/oder audio-visueller Form zu denken und für die digitale Ausstellungsplattform „Karussell“ zur Verfügung zu stellen.

„Eine andere Welt“ fragt nach den Möglichkeiten, Kultur, Kunst, Gesellschaft, Politik, Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft kritisch zu denken und wie wir die aktuelle institutionelle Anwendung u.a. in Form von Technik begreifen können. Welche Räume eröffnen sich in Zeiten von lockdown und social distancing, welche Formen von Kritik lassen sich ins Digitale transferieren und welche Materialitäten stehen dem künstlerischen Schaffen daher zur Verfügung?

Eine Jury wählt aus den Einreichungen rund zwanzig Arbeiten aus, die im digitalen Raum, auf der Startseite der base Angewandte, gezeigt werden. Die Student*innen, deren Arbeiten ausgewählt werden, erhalten ein kleines Preisgeld.

Einreichung

Die Einreichung (Fotografie, Grafik, Tonaufnahme, Typographie, Video, …) erfolgt über die base Angewandte Applikation „Portfolio“:

1. Sie laden Ihre Abbildung inkl. Beschreibung hoch und geben das Objekt frei („Eintrag veröffentlichen“). Eine kurze Anleitung finden Sie hier.

2. Senden Sie bitte die URL des Eintrags* mit dem Betreff „Einreichung Eine andere Welt“ an astrid.poyer@uni-ak.ac.at.

Technische Rahmenbedingungen

Die Darstellung auf der Startseite der base Angewandte erfolgt immer angepasst an den jeweils verwendeten Monitor bzw. an das jeweilige Gerät – der Bildausschnitt wird entsprechend skaliert. Idealerweise konzentriert sich die bildliche Darstellung auf die Bildmitte und es gibt entsprechende Toleranzen, das Bild zu beschneiden. Zudem wird links unten Text über das Bild gelegt.

Audio und Video bieten bis auf „Play“ und „Pause“ keine weiteren Kontrollelemente, die audio-visuellen Beiträge zu steuern (u.a. vorspulen).

Hilfe zu Portfolio

Erste Informtionen zur Bedienung von Portfolio erhalten Sie über das weiter oben erwähnte How-To-Video sowie über die Hilfe innerhalb der base.

Am 13. Mai 2020, 10:30 Uhr, bietet Nirmalie Mulloli ein Webinar zu Portfolio an, das sich speziell an Student*innen richtet. Anmeldung unter nirmalie.mulloli@uni-ak.ac.at.

Call for artworks

In 1843 the author and illustrator J.J. Grandville took a satirical look at his contemporaries and their desire to consume goods that are said to live up to the promises of social, cultural and technical utopias. Grandville’s “Un autre monde” has been handed down to us as a fascinating political farce of a brave new world.

We would like to invite students of the Angewandte to think “another world” with artistic means in a visual and/or audio-visual form and to make it available for the digital exhibition platform “Carousel”.

“Another world” asks about the opportunities to think critically about art, culture, society, politics, economy and science and how we can use the current institutional application, among other things. understand in the form of technology. Which spaces open up in times of lockdown and social distancing, which forms of critique can be transferred to digital and which materials are available for artistic creation?

A jury will select around twenty works from the submissions, which will be shown in the digital space on the homepage of base Angewandte. The students, whose work is selected, will receive a small prize money.

Submission

The submission (photography, graphics, sound recording, typography, video, ...) will be handled via the base application “Portfolio”:

1. You upload your data including description and publish the object (“Publish Entry”). You can find a brief video guide here.

2. Please send the URL of the entry* with the subject “Submission Another World” to astrid.poyer@uni-ak.ac.at.

Technical Framework

The view of the images/videos on the homepage of base Angewandte is always adapted to the monitor or device used (responsive web design) – the image section is scaled accordingly. Ideally, the pictorial representation concentrates on the centre of the picture and there are corresponding tolerances for cropping the picture. In addition, text is placed on the bottom left of the image.

With the exception of “play” and “pause”, audio and video offer no further control elements for controlling the audio-visual contributions (including fast-forwarding).
